Daimler R&D boss Thomas Weber says the company’s upcoming B-Class Electric Drive will be better than the 2014 BMW i3, as well as other competitors in the electric car market.
Speaking to Automobilwoche, Weber said the B-Class Electric Drive will have a range of 200 kilometers (124 miles) that can be achieved “in normal daily use” and not just on paper and torque of “significantly more than 300 newton meters” (221 lb-ft).
The power will enable the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 160 km/h (99 mph), Weber added, while the battery back will take three hours to get fully charged. The EV will also come with a two-stage energy recuperation energy and two-stage braking paddles.
The Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive will be launched next spring in the United States, while the European version is set to arrive next fall.
