McLaren Send Apology Letter to the FIA

McLaren Mercedes boss Martin Whitmarsh revealed he and his team have sent FIA president Max Mosley a written apology over the controversial incidents following the Australian Grand Prix earlier this year. The Englishman publicly admitted his team's wrongdoings in the “lying saga” and asked for forgiveness from the international body.

However, the McLaren boss did not reveal anything about the letter. He insisted McLaren will not leak anything from it, as the document was intended for FIA read only. In addition, he said he doesn't expect any sign from the FIA in response to it, but will wait until after the 29th of April to find out the verdict from the World Motor Sport Council.

We are cooperating with the FIA, I have written to (President) Max (Mosley) but obviously before the 29th I can't say anything about it. It's a letter to them. Certainly, there's been no leak about it from us and I can't comment on it,” Whitmarsh was quoted as saying by  news agency Reuters.

Following the lie-gate – when Lewis Hamilton and then-sporting director Dave Ryan lied to the race stewards concerning a race incident with Jarno Trulli – McLaren have done everything right in order to show the FIA that they are repentant over what happened.

Apart from publicly apologizing for the incident, the Woking-based team have fired Ryan – who has been with the team from the '80s – and have replaced Chief Executive Officer Ron Dennis – even it that was disguised into a retirement from the former McLaren boss. In addition, Whitmarsh offered his resignation to the McLaren shareholders, but was immediately turned down.

McLaren are to appear before the World Motor Sport Council next Wednesday to explain their actions to the FIA body. Race ban may be one of the verdicts waiting for them, as announced by F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone.
