The vehicle you see here is the Reporter pickup concept car. It was presented by MBtech (Mercedes-Benz Technology) at the 63rd IAA Commercial Vehicles event that is being held in Hanover.

The vehicle is much more than just a study. The company explains that it is a technological display that features the DualX E-Drive solution, which makes it both a plug-in and a full-hybrid vehicle that uses all-wheel-drive. The vehicle combines top fuel efficiency with all-terrain abilities.

Its drivetrain includes an electric motor that generate 70 kW (95 hp) and sends its power to the rear axle, which works in conjunction with an independent 1.2 liter, four-cylinder natural gas combustion engine with a gas exhaust turbocharging system that powers the front axle. The internal combustion engine is used as a range and performance extender.

The Reporter can reach a top speed of 80 mph (130 km/h), while offering a driving range of 186 miles (300 km) in the European Driving Cycle.

The vehicle offers three driving modes, allowing the driver to use the one that best suits the specific conditions. The first one is the Eco mode that offers emissions-free driving and is suitable for city cruising. This is followed by “4range” that allows long-range economical driving and by “4dynamic”, which offers maximum all-wheel-drive performance.

One of the vehicle’s special features is its Solar Top, which is a low-profile solar panel (this is not a proper solar panel) that generates 266 Watts and is used to feed some of the vehicle’s auxiliary systems, such as the air conditioning.
