Mazda RX-8 Trio Ready for Targa Tasmania

The Mazda Motorsport team has finished testing the its trio of turbocharged RX-8 models ahead of the start of Targa Tasmania, one of the world’s toughest tarmac rallies, tomorrow. The whole team is reportedly feeling confident that all cars are ready for the five-day event. Driving the three RX-8 challengers will be Jamie Vandenberg, Steve Glenney and Brendan Reeves.

“We’re really pleased with how all three cars are looking, we’ve had the chance to iron out some issues we identified during testing and what we now have are some pretty competitive race cars,” stated Mazda Motorsport boss, Allan Horsley.

“The RX-8 is improving every time we run it. We’re inching closer and closer to the competition leaders and I hope we now have a package that will keep us hot on the heels of the event front runners,” said Glenney in a statement for the press.

After the preparation that took place at the recent World Rally Championship in Portugal, Brendan Reeves is also looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the Mazda3 MPS.

“Targa Tasmania is an event we’ve been looking forward to all year. We’ve had great preparation and I can’t wait to get out there and bring home a Showroom class win,”
said Reeves.

The 2011 Targa Tasmania event will kick off with a prologue stage through the streets of George Town commencing at 12:00pm tomorrow, April 6, with Mazda Motorsports bringing its most aggressive Targa campaign ever. The event has 2000 km made up of around 40 special closed road stages and regularly attracts more than 300 entries.
