“Without a doubt he knew it. There is no way he couldn't know it. I'm certain,” Massa told a group of journalists in a Sao Paolo restaurant on Wednesday, as reported by the GMM news agency.
“Without a doubt, Fernando knew it. Logically he had to. There is no way he couldn't have,” added the 28-year old, according to the EFE news agency.
Felipe Massa expressed his frustrations over what happened in Singapore many times during the past few weeks, as the results of the crash-gate practically kept him from becoming world champion last year. At the time of Piquet's crash, he was leading the Singapore race, whereas at the end of it, he finished outside the point-scoring positions. In the end, he lost the world title by a single point to Lewis Hamilton.
However, knowing that he may have exaggerated a little bit when accusing his future teammate of fixing the 2008 Singapore race, Massa kind of retracted his comments, insisting that he doesn't hold any evidence of Alonso's involvement in the scandal.
“What I've said is the outcome of a hunch I've had and is not based on any concrete evidence. What is certain is that this episode will not mar in any way the relationship I'll have with Fernando when we will be teammates,” added the Brazilian driver. But then again, does anyone actually buy that?
Massa and Alonso are yet to speak to each other following the Spaniards' confirmation at Ferrari. They will probably meet in Brazil, where Massa is scheduled to wave the chequered flag on Sunday, and have an interesting conversation over the Brazilian's comments.
