Much like you hate it when you get an uninspired or cheap birthday present from relatives, one young man from Haryana, Indiana, hated when his parents got him a BMW for his special day.
However, unlike how you might react (i.e. accept the gift with grace, thinking that, after all, it’s the thought that counts), this young man put his flashy new car into the river on purpose. In his mind, he had good reason for acting this way, too: what he really, really wanted was a Jaguar.

India Today reports that the 22-year-old man, whose identity hasn’t been made public to the media, is now the object of a police investigation. He also ended up feeling sorry for his rash and very stupid gesture because, while a BMW may be worse than the Jag he wanted, it was still better than no car at all.

Which is exactly what he ended up with. In his fury, the man pushed the BMW into a local river and recorded the whole thing and posted it to his social media. Whether that was a way of vent or to show his parents what he really thought of their present, we have no way of knowing.

The report does say that, at some point, the car got stuck on a tall patch of land with grass, which is when the dude, son of a local landlord, probably realized how stupid he’d been. With help from local divers, he was seen trying to rescue the car and bring it back to land. As expected, their efforts were in vain and the car was completely submerged.

“When the youth was plunging the high-end BMW car into the river, he also made a video and put it on social media,” a police official tells the local media. An investigation into the incident is now underway, and the man may be charged once it’s concluded.

So not only is he now car-less and facing a fine or some light jail time, but he’s probably off all present lists his parents will be making for the foreseeable future.
