So you`re driving along, minding your own business, and you arrive at a set of traffic lights/intersection/obstacle and you realize that you have to brake, yet no matter how much pressure you apply to the pedal, nothing seems to happen. What do you do?
You could pull the ‘emergency brake’, as the Americans like to call it, but what if that fails, or you panic and completely forget you have a manual braking system which is hand-operated. Do you open the door, and put one foot out, desperately trying to shave some speed before the impact?

Well, apparently this is exactly what Brian Reynolds, a 40 year-old man from Massachusetts did when he ran out of braking power, while driving his Chevy pick-up near a park, in Salem. After making the grim realization that he has no brakes, he opened the door, at some point he fell out and the truck ran over his leg, before finally stopping at the base of a fire hydrant.

However, the story does not end here, as he was later fined by the local police for operating a motor vehicle with a faulty braking system. While it is justified, they could have ‘looked the other way’, this time, as the man had already been through enough.
