Luca di Montezemolo Congratulates Hamilton

Ferrari might have won the constructors' title this season, but it was McLaren's Lewis Hamilton who got all the praises after the Brazilian Grand Prix last Sunday. The Brit became not only the first black driver to be crowned world champion but also the youngest in the history of the sport. And even his Ferrari rivals had to take their hats off following his astonishing performance this year.

After Stefano Domenicali yesterday, it was the Scuderia's CEO Luca di Montezemolo who congratulated Hamilton on his title this season. However, the Italian warned the young Brit that he shouldn't sit too comfortable on that champion chair as Ferrari will again challenge for the title next year.

“I would like to send my congratulations to Lewis Hamilton, the youngest ever world champion in the history of Formula One. He was a very powerful rival indeed and his win, close though it was, was well deserved. He'll have the number 1 on his car next season, but he can rest assured of one thing: we'll be doing our very best to put it back on a Ferrari,” said di Montezemolo in an official statement on Ferrari's official website.

The Scuderia chairman was also enthused with the final few laps of the season and, despite Massa losing out with two corners left in the race, admitted this is the kind of racing F1 should be heading to in the near future.

“In all my years in Formula 1, I haven't seen such an incredibly exciting finish to a championship. I always said that we'd be fighting until the last corner of the last Grand Prix and that's exactly what happened at the end of a brilliantly tense competition,” added the Italian.

Ferrari won their 16th ever Formula 1 title this year – 8th in the last decade – the very season when Jean Todt stepped down as team director of the Maranello team in favor of Domenicali.
