Lotus Works Hard in Finding ‘Two Tenths’

In the Malaysian Grand Prix that took place last weekend Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen was only 0.242s away from pole position and it became clear that the team needs to work hard to improve the car. Given the three weeks between Malaysia and the following race from China, the team is optimistic that they have enough time to make small improvements in order to obtain better lap times.

Based on how close the grid looked in this season, any slight modification could ensure a pole position and why not, a podium finish. Lotus is satisfied with the general behavior of the E20, but there’s place for improvement. At China the team will bring new parts and hopefully they’ll reach their objectives.

They hope to squeeze ‘two tenths’ by using a better timing on the pit area, focusing on the wheel nuts and wheel guns. They compared their times with the opposition’s and concluded that precious time can be gained. Raikkonen was close to the pole in Malaysia, but he’s not fully satisfied with the power-steering setup, so they will also focus engineering effort on that.

The Chinese Grand Prix starts on April 15 and Lotus promises to put pressure on their opponents.
