London is one of the first capital cities in the world to realize that for green urban ares, local councils and governments must first find ways of turning public transportation into an emission-free affair. Therefore, they introduced the range-extended Metrocab electric taxis. But now, they will be offering free rides in central London.
The Metrocab is already operating in London and a small fleet of cars is being dispatched on a trial basis on the city’s streets. The pilot fleet’s introduction was possible through a partnership between Metrocab and ComCab but is will also involve passengers’ feedback on the service.

So, if you’re looking for a journey free of charge around central London, all you have to do is jump in a Metrocab and allow a camera to be pointed at you. That’s because Metrocab wants to put together a short video showing passengers’ reaction when driven around in a zero-emissions taxi.

But hurry though, as the video will be filmed in central London this week and random passengers’ reaction will be recorded while riding the Bentley-inspired environment-friendly London taxis.

“We have been developing the new Metrocab for 10 years now, with over a million miles of powertrain testing completed. With its cost savings for the drivers, smooth air-suspended ride and unrivalled panoramic glass roof views of the city for passengers and its zero-emissions capability benefitting the environment, truly everybody wins,” explained Gordon Dixon, regional operations director of Metrocab.

As you might recall, the Metrocab is put into motion by two 50 kW (67 HP) electric motors fed by a 12.2 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery. In this configuration, the zero-emission black cab can reach a top speed of 80 mph (129 km/h) and can go 348 miles (560 km) on a single charge.
