Let This 850 hp Brabus CLS Make Your Skin Crawl

When Brabus launched their newest most powerful engine ever at the 2013 edition of the Frankfurt Motor Show, there were quite a lot of jaws dropped.

Using a twin-turbocharged M157 engine from AMG as a base, the Bottrop engineers enlarged the cylinder displacement from 5.5-liters to 5.9 liters, while also replacing the turbocharger compressors with larger ones.

Other modifications consist of an intake system that's been gold-plated for improved efficiency, a new exhaust system made from stainless steel and a new ECU specifically designed by Brabus.

The result is close to spectacular, with no less than 850 Hp and an Earth-moving 1450 Nm (1069 lb ft) of torque available on tap.

Sadly, Brabus decided to limit the maximum torque to “just” 1150 Nm (848 lb ft) of torque, which is still just about enough to make the back of your head hurt everytime you hit the accelerator.

If you ever wondered how such a monster of an engine might sound when fitted to a gorgeous Mercedes-Benz CLS, for example, now is your chance. The second time we started watching it we actually closed our eyes and realized that the epic exhaust sounds remind us of a caged animal.
