Current World Champion and Le Mans winner Alan McNish is retiring from LMP racing after eight years with Audi Motorsport. Although he won’t be putting his career to a permanent halt, the 43-year-old Scotsman declined to reveal his future plans.
“Having also won the Le Mans 24 Hours, I can’t wish for more than what we’ve achieved this year. I can look back on a fantastic career that has left no aims unfinished and I’m looking forward to new challenges the future holds for me. Now I’ll have a lot more time for my family. But I’m going to continue to be part of motorsport in various roles, albeit no longer as an Audi race driver,” McNish said.
The Scottish driver will remain in close contact with Audi Sport and “contribute his knowledge”, the German manufacturer said, without going into specifics.
Alan McNish is a three time 24 Hours of Le Mans and American Le Mans Series winner. This year, McNish also won the FIA World Endurance Championship with Audi. Previously, he competed in DTM and Formula One.
