While at first glance, Android Auto 6.0 didn’t seem to introduce too many big changes, at least one major problem has been resolved in this latest update.
According to the Android Auto team, this one concerned the issue encountered with notifications when text messages were sent from other Android devices.

More specifically, some users discovered last year that whenever they received messages from other Android phones, notifications no longer showed up, and Android Auto "forgot" to read the texts. For some reason, everything was working just fine when someone was getting a text message from an iPhone.

Several users have confirmed, including in early 2021, that the whole thing was encountered exclusively with text messages coming from Android devices.

Same issue with 2020 Mazda CX-5 GTR & Samsung Note 9. I may be lucky enough to have a text notification display if I have reset my phone & cleared cache but will not show subsequent notifications of texts. The app has never provided the option to read a message and Assistant does not recognize there are any messages received if I ask it to read the last message,” one user explains in a post on Google’s forums.

The good news is that Google has been silently working on a fix, and the most recent Android Auto version resolves the problems once and for all.

In a post on the same thread, a member of the dev team explains Android Auto 6.0, which was released in January, comes with fixes for the notification glitch.

This issue has been fixed with the recent Android Auto app version 6.0. You can go ahead and update the app to the latest version. Also, make sure the SMS permission for the Android Auto app is enabled,” the message reads.

Google is also projected to release a new Android Auto in the coming days as version 6.1, so more fixes are likely to be included too.
