Kobayashi Replaces Glock at Abu Dhabi - Official!

Jenson Button and Kazuki Nakajima better look out, because Kamui Kobayashi will be back in business for the upcoming Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this weekend. According to a press release issued by Toyota earlier this morning, it seems that German driver Timo Glock will be missing his second race of the season due to his injury in Japan and will be replaced by Kobayashi for the second time running.

The Japanese driver made quite an impression in his first outing for Toyota, nearly making the Q3 in Brazil and finishing the race just outside the points, in 9th place. However, his over-aggressive racing style got the attention of newly crowned champion Jenson Button, who revealed he was very careful when fighting the Japanese driver on the Interlagos track.

Toyota today confirmed that they won't be risking Timo Glock's physical state in Abu Dhabi, with team president John Howett publicly stating his regret for the German's situation.

We feel genuinely sorry for Timo that his season, which has included two impressive podium finishes, is ending in this way. Having discussed the medical advice with Timo and his management, the team has decided to take no risk and to put Kamui in the car. Kamui performed well in Brazil in difficult circumstances so we are happy to ask him to once again deputize,” said Howett in the press release.

Glock's injury comes at the worst time possible, as the German – much like his teammate Jarno Trulli – are under scrutiny over keeping their racing spots at Toyota for next season. Both have been asked to look for other jobs in the series, but the Japanese manufacturer revealed they may also be offered contract extension for 2010.

With Toyota clearly showing an improvement in terms of racing pace throughout the last 3 races, this would have been a great opportunity for Glock to show the Cologne officials that he deserves to be retained for another season.
