Klien Puts Le Mans Programme Aside for F1 Future

Former BMW test driver Christian Klien insisted that he has the necessary attributes to return to Formula One racing for the 2010 season. Although currently linked with only a Sauber/Qadback spot for next season, the Austrian issued a cry for help as he is eager to return at the wheel of an F1 cockpit following his 3-year stint that ended in 2006.

Had BMW Sauber signed in for 2010 I would most likely have been guaranteed a race seat. The successor has no official entry for 2010 yet. But everyone in Hinwil is working flat out on next year's race car. I am positive that the traditional Sauber team from Hinwil will be on the grid in Bahrain in 2010,” said Klien, according to crash.net.

In order to show the world that he means business, Klien announced that he is putting his Le Mans plans for next season on hold in order to focus on signing a new F1 deal. As positive as he may seem for a Sauber/Qadbak seat, the latest developments on that buyout deal are all but promising.

At the moment I am focusing all my options on F1. Therefore, right now I cannot commit to Peugeot for Le Mans 2010 because of the June 13 date conflict with the Canadian grand prix,” added Klien, according to the GMM news agency.

However, Klien insisted that the Hinwil based team is not the only team wanting his services for the upcoming season, as newly entrants Manor F1, US F1 and Lotus F1 are also searching for an experienced driver to help them through the development of the 2010 machinery.

I was approached by several teams concerning a race drive during the season. The new teams are interested in drivers with F1 experience to speed up the development of their car. For 2010 I still see a very realistic chance to be racing in F1,” added the Austrian driver.
