This just in from Jim Edwards of Business Insider: during a Q&A session with the BBC Director-General Tony Hall, the publication asked the man what the future holds for Jezza. Tony Hall is siding with Captain Power, at least until the facts come in and a decision will be made by the disciplinary comitee.
The Top Gear presenter’s future looks bleak at the present moment from the Top Gear fan base’s point of view. At best, Clarkson will score a £10-plus million deal with ITV for an all-new motoring show if he plans to continue walking down the same automotive road that made him so famous around the world.
Recently, various more or less unofficial reports regarding Tony Hall’s position on the Clarkson-Tymon fracas scandal pointed towards a BBC Director-General with a mission - to keep Jezza onboard the British Broadcasting Corporation. In addition to those, Business Insider now returns with a tell-tale sign of what’s in store for Jeremy. Without further ado:
”I thought for one glorious moment, you know ..." (that he might not get a Clarkson question). “The most important thing is to gather the facts around you and not listen to all the speculation and let me tell you I will gather the facts and make my decision based on a whole raft of things... You should gather the facts from the people concerned before you make your decision and that's exactly what I'm doing.”
“Facts” and “a whole raft of things” are surprising words for a BBC that keeps things hush-hush at the present moment. But then again, two things are extremely obvious based on Tony’s choice of words:
a) unless proven guilty for the punch-up with the producer, Jezza is a hot asset for the BBC in Hall’s eyes;
b) the BBC’s higher-up would have said more if there wasn’t so much pressure on his shoulders from powerful people in the company that want Jeremy Clarkson to be kicked out from the national broadcaster.
UPDATE: Jeremy Clarkson: "I'll do one last lap of Top Gear track before f****** b******* sack me."
