The McLaren M26 Formula One car driven by James Hunt in the 1977 season will be auctioned off by RKMCCA at the Charlotte Convention Center Auction between October 31 and November 3.
Offered at auction for the very first time, the 36-year-old raced won three Formula One grand prix with James Hunt behind the wheel, including the Englishman’s last victory in this competition. James Hunt finished the 1977 season in fifth place, 32 points behind world champion Niki Lauda (Scuderia Ferrari).

The single-seater is powered by a Ford Cosworth DFV V8 engine that develops 525 horsepower at an incredible 10,600 rpm. It has an aluminum monocoque chassis with double wishbone, coil over dampers, and a rack and pinion steering.

Beautifully preserved, this piece of Formula One history has an anticipated sale price of $1.2 million to $1.8 million.
