Irvine Accuses Son of Milan Mayor of Assault

Former Ferrari driver Eddie Irvine might have left Formula One a considerable amount of years ago, but that doesn't mean he's not to make the headlines anymore. According to Italian newspaper La Repubblica, the Irishman accused Gabriele Moratti, the son of the current mayor of Milan Letizia Moratti, of assault.

As reported by the aforementioned source, it seems the two men got into a fight at the Milan dance nightclub Hollywood just before last Christmas. The former Ferrari-an claims the fight was initiated by Moratti, whose jealousy over a former fiancee led to the first punch of the night.

We don't know just how many punches were thrown that evening, but what did surfaced to the media was that Irvine's eardrum was damaged in the process.

As far as Moratti is concerned, the nephew of Italian Serie A club owner Massimo Moratti (Internazionale Milan) insisted the fight was initiated by Irvine, who was very drunk at the moment. According to him, it was the 43-year old Irishman who struck him in the head. However, he didn't sustain any visible injuries as a result of the fight.

Grand Prix winner Eddie Irvine also commenced his Formula One years with a famous punch. It was none other than triple F1 champion Ayrton Senna who “took care of business” following the 1993 Japanese Grand Prix, at Suzuka, after Irvine had passed the Brazilian driver on track, despite being a lap down.
