Four-time Indianapolis 500 winner Al Unser will be joining the 21st running of the Goodwood Festival of Speed between June 27-29, the organizers have announced last week.
Being one of the only three drivers to have won the Indy 500 four times (1970, 1971, 1978, 1987) and having three IndyCar series championships to his name (1970, 1983, 1985), Al Unser is seen as the perfect attendee for this year’s Festival of Speed theme “Addicted to winning: The unbeatable champions of motor sport.”
The Albuquerque-born champion will join the Goodwood Festival of Speed for the third time, after taking on the 1.16-mile hill with several IndyCar single-seaters in both 2007 and 2009.
Al Unser announced his retirement from racing in 1994, three years after being inducted in the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America. In 1998, he was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame. His career spanned over 37 years.
