Less than a week before the official launch of the model, the first leaked photo of the Indian Chief Dark Horse is here to spoil the surprise. Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s not with a shadow of regret I bring you this, but quite the opposite. In a way, the Dark Horse was probably even more anticipated than other Indian models, most likely because it parted from the bulkiness of the traditional models while introducing a more aggressive side to the Spirit Lake bikes.
The new Dark Horse doesn’t stray from the path the 2010-2013 model walked on. Building on the Thunder Stroke 111 engine, the bike has the same dimensions, give or take. However, the Dark Horse looks more supple and almost sporty… in a cruiser-ish way. This impression is most likely caused by the absence of a passenger seat and the almost exhibitionist way the rear fender arches.

An all-black beast with several shiny accents

It’s not sure yet if the portrayed livery is the only color scheme the 2016 Indian Chief Dark Horse will be offered with. However, given its name, we doubt we’ll get to see a red and cream one. The matte/satin black looks pretty trick, especially with the grey chief logo on the tank, and black cylinders, heads and engine cases.

The polished fins, pushrod covers, exhaust system and few other elements are the only ones which escaped the dark, and even the bars, mirrors, reservoirs, headlight nacelle and rims are black. If anything, the Indian Chief Dark Horse is an all-out styling statement, coherent with the previous version, yet undeniably heading for a new future.

According to A&R who published the leaked photos, the 2016 Indian Chief Dark Horse will surface with a $17,000 (currently €15,000) price tag, with a range of matching all-black accessories available, too. Is Harley planning to ressurect old bikes, too?
