The US, and in fact the entire world, is now in shock after a mega-crash that took place on Florida’s Interstate 75 early Sunday, has killed at least 10 people and injured 18 others.
The highway had been closed due to the fact that fog had combined with heavy smoke, which was believed to have come from a fire that was intentionally set, had formed, reducing visibility to zero. On early Sunday, it was reopened, but not too long after that an area south of Gainesville was covered in a similar mixture.
As the cars and semi trucks entered this area, they started crashing, with the aftermath being the aforementioned dark statistics. It all took place around 3:45 am local time on both sides of the I-75. Many vehicles caught fire, with the situation escalating rapidly.
The poor visibility not only caused the accidents, but also made the rescue crews’ work almost impossible, as it was extremely difficult for them to locate the victims. The authorities are still investigating the matter, with the main focus points being the nature of the fire (like we said, this is believed to have been set intentionally) and the decision to reopen the interstate.
