After the 700,000 Hyundai and Kia units recalled for the same problem in 2009, the Korean automakers seems to make their largest recall campaign ever with over 1.6 million models sharing the brake switch fault.
The faulty switch controls the taillights illumination when brakes are applied, so it is kind of a big deal, as rear end collisions could happen. Also, the switch may cause the cruise control not to be canceled while braking, the push-button starter not working as well as the gear selector, which could stay blocked in neutral.
Hyundai and Kia will notify owners, and dealers will replace the faulty switches at no costs probably in June 2013. For more information on this matter, owners can contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151 and Kia at 1-800-333-4542.
