Hyundai is moving further and further from its budget car roots and is using technology to make a name for itself. The Korean automaker is working on a system that allows you to open your car using your cell phone, and they say this could enter production as early as 2015.
The system was installed on an i30 displayed near their European headquarters in Frankfurt, Germany. This so called Connectivity Concept locks or unlocks the doors when you move your cell phone over the top of the NFC-tag (Near Field Communication) placed over the top of the door.

“With this technology, Hyundai is able to harness the all-in-one functionality of existing smartphone technology and integrating it into everyday driving in a seamless fashion. As the technology continually develops there will be capabilities to store driver’s seating positions and exterior mirror settings, providing customers with a comfortable and individual driving environment,” said Allan Rushforth, senior VP and CEO of Hyundai Motor Europe.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
