Hyundai, UK's No. 1 Brand...

...or let us put it this way: the Korean manufacturer managed to record an increase of no less than...323 percent in the UK in August, compared with the same month of 2008. Simply put, the Koreans dwarfed the traditional UK frontrunners Vauxhall and Ford, becoming the number one brand in the country, with 5.6 percent market share.

These are truly historic figures for Hyundai. There are now thousands of happy new Hyundai drivers, and these owners’ recommendations will become our best advertising. It will ensure that Hyundai’s success continues years to come,” Tony Whitehorn, Hyundai managing director said in a release.

Out of the 3,737 Hyundais sold in August, 2,431 of them were i10 city car, making it Britain's third best selling car. And it doesn't end here...Hyundai has high hopes for September as well.

They base their belief that the manufacturer will continue to ascend on the fact that many UK motorists have waited until now to register their cars, as they will be able to get the new "59" registration numbers. So Hyundai expects not only to match their August performance, but beat it as well.

"We are well on the way to making September the best ever month for sales in the company’s history,” Whitehorn added. “Our dealers have taken on an average of 20% more staff to cope with demand."

And thinking the Koreans will move i20 production to Europe, in an attempt to get tax benefits and bring the car closer to its largest markets, Hyundai has all the reasons to hope for the best.

Hyundai also reported a record August in the US as well. Fueled by the CARS program, Hyundai car sales increased by 33 percent compared to July.
