It seems Hyundai collaborated on a massive scale with an American tuning company called Blood Type Racing in order to prepare for this year's Chicago Auto Show. That included a little bit of help with their concept cars and some engine testing. As a result of this, the first tangible information about a brand new 3.3-liter twin-turbo engine has just leaked out.
Apparently, this unit will be dropped into the engine bay of the next-generation Genesis Coupe, which we've already seen testing in Sweden. Kia also used a 3.3L turbo for its Audi A7 fighting GT concept, which would indicate more cars could use this charged V6 in the future, but for now, Hyundai is hellbent on fighting premium German coupes like the Audi S5 and BMW 4-Series.

According to information released by The Korean Car Blog, the 3.3-liter has very small turbos designed to spin up more quickly and reduce lag. They also used a DOHC 24-valve setup and an advanced form of continuous variable valve timing. Graphs indicate an output of exactly 365 PS and 379 lb-ft (514 Nm) of torque, making this a competitor to the anticipated C450 AMG Sport model from Mercedes and more than a match for BMWs and Audis.

The next-generation Genesis Coupe, which may arrive at the Detroit Auto Show as a 2017 model year, is rumored to also receive the V8 TAU engine, pushing around 450 hp to the back wheels via a proprietary 8-speed gearbox. Hopefully the HTRAC all-wheel drive system is also going to be offered to keep this much power in check.

Our say: If it looks like the 2015 Genesis sedan and it goes like the clappers, we'd buy it!
