Hyundai Celebrates Its Millionth Sonata Produced in Montgomery

Hyundai Sonata proves to be a huge success on the U.S. car market, a fact revealed by the increasing sales figures and growing number of model enthusiasts. But the memorable moment comes from Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (HMMA), which is making a major leap at its Montgomery-based facility. The manufacturer has announced that its 1,000,000th Alabama-built Sonata has rolled off the assembly line into the car manufacturer’s history.

Th anniversary model, is a 2012 limited edition 2.0 turbo which has received an eye-catching silver paint. The celebration took place at the Alabama facility, which included the plant employees as well as the President and CEO Young Deuk Lim who drove the Sonata off the quality inspection line. The celebration “drive test” included in the passenger seats the Vice President of Production Department Ashley Frye and Robert Coleman, HMMA’s Team member of the year.

"I am so proud of everything our Team Members have accomplished in the past six years, eclipsing 1,000,000 total vehicles manufactured in November 2009, producing more than 300,000 vehicles in 2010 and now our 1,000,000th Sonata. This milestone provides us an opportunity celebrate our many achievements and take pride in knowing our Hyundai spirit is alive and ready to reach any goal we set for ourselves." President Young Deuk Lim was quoted as saying.

Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama has benefited from the huge success of the Sonata which continues to be the company’s top seller. Officials say that the Sonata is a big part of the reason the facility is operating beyond its original capacity of 300,000 units for two years now.
