The Petersen Automotive Museum is an amazing collection of some of the most important vehicles in automotive history, but the cars can only tell so much of a story themselves. For this reason, it has teamed up with MotoManTV to create an amazing series of videos called Inside the MotoMan Studio at The Petersen where key figures in the automotive industry give a deeper look at the their particular field.
Previous guests include Bob Lutz and Peter Brock, but most recently, Porsche racing legend Hurley Haywood headed to Los Angeles to talk racing. Introduced as ““most winning long distance racecar driver,” Haywood definitely has the stats to back it up as a five-time Daytona winner, a three-time LeMans winner and a two-time Sebring winner… among many other endurance racing wins.

This interview gives an interesting look at Haywood where he talks about aspects like how he broke into car racing thanks to a 500-hp Corvette and a chance encounter with Peter Gregg, how his passion and discipline for racing was cemented as he was drafted in the Vietnam War and even his current role as race instructor for Porsche and dealer principle for Brumos Porsche in Jacksonville, FL.

More than just himself, though, Haywood also gives an excellent story behind the Brumos name as well as the legendary No. 59. And of course, we’d be disappointed if there wasn’t plenty of talk about the cars Hurley has piloted during his racing career, and he comes through discussing everything from his first 911 racecar to his Can-Am car to the Porsches he drives and rides in today for the Porsche Driving School.

At almost two hours in length, it’s a bit of a long video, but I you’re a fan of Porsches, endurance racing or Hurley Haywood, you’re definitely going to want to carve out some free time for this interview. After that, be sure to check out some of the other guests that have appeared on the Inside the MotoMan Studio at The Petersen series.
