Hummer H3 Competes in Rallye Aicha des Gazelles

The off-road motorsport world is buzzing these days, as the 20th anniversary Rallye Aicha des Gazelles is taking place in Morocco. The competition is dedicated to female drivers and all the money resulted from it will go to a charity that takes care of multiple issues in Morocco.

Last week, Dacia announced that it will enter a racing version of the upcoming Duster into the competition. Mercedes also entered an off-road racing incarnation of the Viano 4matic and a rough terrain racing-ready Sprinter 4x4 in the rally. Now, GM announces that HUMMER France has supplied a bespoke version of the Hummer H3 to the U.S. Gazelles team, that takes part in the competition.

The vehicle is powered by a racing five-cylinder engine and uses permanent four wheel drive & a locking rear differential. To tackle the difficult terrain, the SUV rides in 33-inch BF Goodrich tires.

Driver Emily Miller and navigator Wendy Fisher form the U.S. Gazelles, the only U.S. team that competes in the rally.

When you’re skiing in the backcountry, you want to use the best possible gear to keep you safe and successfully finish the run,” said Miller. “This race is no different. We wanted the best possible equipment for the race, which is why we chose the HUMMER H3.

The Rallye Aicha des Gazelles has strict rules, as teams must race without any high-tech equipment or support crews. The 100 teams that take part are only allowed to use a compass and a set of maps to tackle the rugged terrain over the nine days of the competition.
