As we reported earlier, the Yamaha R1M track-minded beast can be ordered again, as Iwata decided to manufacture more bikes because of high demand. What was initially a run limited to 500 units turned out to be a rather funny thing, as the bikes sold out very quickly.
Introduced in November 2014 at EICMA, the R1M became available early this year and was sold out in Europe at the beginning of April. It looks like the demand for this higher-tier R1 was far greater than Yamaha anticipated.
More teams and independent riders wanted to get hold of the R1M and this prompted Yamaha to consider extending the initial offer. The bikes can be ordered in most European countries from Yamaha's online dedicated resource. It looks like the US website also lists the R1M as being available, but upon special order only.
The ballpark price of the R1M in Europe is €24,000 with only several countries offering it with a price tag reading bigger figures. Customers who want to buy a Yamaha YZF-R1M must provide personal data filling in a registration form with their preferred dealer.
They will then receive an email that confirms that Yamaha got their message and the provisional allocation of a bike (or multiple units, if it is the case) when the R1M becomes available physically.
Still, the R1M is theirs only on paper. Upon receiving the allocation message, customers must print it and take it to the dealer in 14 days from the receiving date. There they will have to confirm their purchase intentions and finalize the process.
After Iwata receives the purchase confirmations from the dealers, Yamaha Motor Europe N.V. will send the customers login details to register for the Yamaha Racing Experience taking place in the summer of 2016 exclusively for 2016 YZF-R1M owners. The dealers will then be able to confirm the delivery period for the bike(s).
Financing options most likely depend on each dealer, but we can almost hear the European riders grinding their teeth seeing that their US fellows can get the R1M for only $22,000, which is roughly €19,700 by today's exchange rate.
