HM Queen Sofia of Spain Driving the Peugeot iOn

HM Queen Sofia of Spain is using an “all-electric” approach this summer. The Queen is using a Peugeot iOn, which was supplied by the automotive producer, to cover mobility needs during her summer stay in Palma, Majorca.

It is a privilege for Peugeot to place this very first iOn at the service of the Spanish Royal Family, known for its time-honoured enthusiasm for the environmental cause,” stated the press release.

The move also makes her the first non-Peugeot driver of the new electric vehicle. The Peugeot iOn shares its technology with the Mitsubishi i-MiEV. The vehicle comes with an electric motor that delivers 47 kW (64 hp).

Silent, lively, easy to handle and efficient thanks to its electric motor developing a power of 47 kW (64 bhp), this compact city run-around, with a length of 3.48 m, offers its four occupants a simple and relaxed drive, a high level of safety and a generous equipment specification,” stated the press release.

The iOn offers a driving range of 150 km/ 93 miles per charge (this has been measured using the European cycle standards). The vehicle’s Lithium-ion battery needs six hours to reach the full charge status, but Peugeot also offers a quick-charge terminal that brings the battery to an 80 percent charge in 30 minutes.

The Peugeot iOn will be offered to both private and business customers by the end of the current year. The automotive producer will allow the customers to lease the vehicle, with the contract also covering the maintenance and service areas.
