Harley-Davidson Gets New Original Tires from Michelin

The new MICHELIN Scorcher “31” tire has just been unveiled by the French tyre manufacturer, an original product developed in partnership with Harley-Davidson. These new tires are exclusively available only on four 2010 Harley-Davidson Dyna models, and carry both companies' trademarks on its sidewalls and the signature Harley-Davidson logo carved into the shoulder.

"Michelin has specifically engineered this innovative and durable tire to meet the high expectations of Harley-Davidson owners," said Gary Midkiff, vice president of Michelin North America's two wheel division in a release for the press. "Michelin is excited to build upon our successful relationship with Harley-Davidson as we launch this historic first original equipment fitment."

According to Michelin, the Scorcher "31" tire improves grip and water evacuation capability, thanks to the tire's rubber compounds, which use the latest generation of Michelin synthetic polymers, which are also responsible for the tire’s high mileage and durability.

Michelin’s Research & Development teams used aramid belts under the rear tread to stabilize the contact patch, aiming for making the rider more confident in handling the bike, while the comfort is brought by the polyester carcass plies.

This is the first time that a Michelin tire is offered as an exclusive original equipment on Harley-Davidson motorcycles, though the company began offering replacement tires for Harley-Davidson motorcycles in 2007 when select sizes of the MICHELIN Commander and Macadam 50 tires were first tested and validated by Harley-Davidson for fitment on a wide range of Sportster, Dyna, Softail and Touring motorcycles.

As we aforementioned, only four 2010 models will be originally equipped with the Michelin Scorcher “31” tire, as follows: the 2010 Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide, Super Glide Custom, Street Bob and Low Rider models. However, the MICHELIN Scorcher "31" tire can also be fitted on a variety of 2006-2009 Dyna models.
