Happy 42nd Anniversary, Michael Schumacher!

Michael Schumacher will remain the oldest entrant in Formula One next season, as he has just celebrated his 42nd anniversary today. Born on January 3rd, 1969 in the city of Hurth, Germany, the newly turned 42-year old driver will start his 18th season in Formula One in 2011 for Mercedes GP.

Schumacher announced his return to F1 racing in December 2009, when he signed a 3-year deal with newly formed Mercedes GP team. Despite the high expectation from his fans through the 2010 campaign, the German ranked a disappointing 9th place in the overall classification, being constantly outscored and outqualified by much younger teammate Nico Rosberg.

Nevertheless, with the new aerodynamic rules and new tires for the 2011 season, Schumacher will begin the upcoming campaign with nothing but optimistic goals, aiming to win his first race since comeback with Mercedes.

Despite the underperforming 2010 season – during which he scored his lowest race position ever, P15 in Valencia – Schumacher still holds indestructible records in Formula One, starting with titles (7), continuing with race wins (91), pole positions (68) and ending with scored points (1441).

Although he is currently the oldest racer on the F1 entry list for 2011, Schumacher doesn't hold the F1 record for race starts. His 3 years outside the series – since his initial retirement back in 2006 until 2009 – have lifted former Ferrari teammate Rubens Barrichello in first place for that record, as the Brazilian sits at 307 GPs in career.

Schumacher is currently enjoying his vacation off Formula One. Testing and preparation for the 2011 season is due to start in early February, as Valencia's Ricardo Tormo race track, where all teams will be in action for the first official FIA test of the winter.
