German tuning specialist Hamann Motorsport has released its new design and performance kit for the BMW Z4. Internally known as “E89”, the complete treatment for the German roadster touches both aesthetics and performance.

The aerodynamic pack includes a new redesigned front spoiler, fitted with integrated LED daytime driving lights, new side skirts with air vents that cool the brakes, a new rear spoiler and a rear wing attached to the bootlid. Hamann added new 5-spoke 20-inch rims, as well as four chromed exhausts, which give the car a meaner look and sound. The wheels ride on Continental CSPC 3 high-performance tires, sized 235/30 on the front and 295/25 on the back.

The Hamann specialists then started working on the engine, taking the BMW Z4 sDrive35i as a starter. Between us, this can’t be considered a slow car, with its 306 horsepower and its top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). However, the guys from Hamann tend to disagree with that. That's why they offer simple but effective modifications to the car's powertrain.

By reprogramming the ECU, adding a sport air filter and a new exhaust system, the engineers squeezed a further 54 horsepower from the 3.0-liter straight-six cylinder engine. Total output reaches 360 horsepower at 5,230 rpm and torque is also up to 398 lb-ft. from the stock 295 lb-ft. The interesting thing is that maximum torque is available from as early as 1,300 rpm and remains constant throughout 5,000 rpm.

The E39 BMW Z4 by Hamann Motorsport is naturally faster than the factory model on which it is based. Top speed is 177 mph (285 km/h), delimited from the standard 155 mph (250 km/h).
