ULTRA is not the first GS Mashin creation we feature, and judging by how this new one looks, we hope Tom Mosimann will keep 'em coming. Radical and uncompromising are probably the best attributes for ULTRA.
Tom's new bike is a lightyear away from the original design of the XV950, and in a good way, too. And even with such a wild approach, GS Mashin managed to remain within the confines of the Yard Built principles. That is, no cuts and welds were involved in the making of the ULTRA, even though to some this may seem hard to believe.

Anyway, the XV950 is easy to convert back to its original attire, with all the parts being bolt on. Yamaha Motor Europe Product Manager Shun Miyazawa appreciates Mosimann's creativity: "I'm really happy that despite going for a really radical look, he shares our principles that a custom machine needs to retain the most important function; rideability. He's kept the soul of the XV950 and wrapped it in a really original look without any cutting or welding to the frame. What is perhaps also very impressive is that 95% of the work he does is completed with just a few tools, an angle grinder, a bag of sand and a hammer!"

Sheet steel - hammer time!

The new looks of the ULTRA are made from 1.5mm sheet steel, with the mounts crafted from stainless steel pipe. The lower half of the tank belongs to the original XV950, but was complemented by a bespoke upper half.

Mosimann carefully hid all the lights in small sockets in the fairing, adding to the extreme looks of the bike. K-Tech supplied custom-built rear suspensions to match the overall looks and vibe of the new GS Mashin prototype.

Asic Robotics were commissioned to craft the ultra-aggressive front end of the bike, with the headlight protected by a strong grille. A matching edgy design was used for the chin spoiler as well.

Custom wire-spoked wheels have been added to the build, and GS Mashin retained the ABS. The seat got a custom diamond stitch-work that complements perfectly the Two Brothers Racing exhaust with its wrapped collectors. And because the GS Mashin ULTRA is a true Yard Built bike, it is also fully rideable. As a sidenote, we wish Tom changed the stock gauge, because it is simply hideous.
