Great Britain Selects 2011 GT Academy Winners

Ladies and G... amers, the UK has selected its best virtual racing drivers in British GT Academy final, with two winners selected to represent the country at the international competition that will take place at Silverstone.

The contenders took part in a series of races on the Grand Turismo 5, as well as other challenges, with the winners being 19-year-old Jann Mardenborough from Cardiff and 29-year-old James Hudson from Bromley. You have to keep in mind that the final prize of the global competition is a seat in a Nissan 370Z at the Dubai 24 hour international endurance race.

This is amazing. All those hours up in my bedroom with my mum shouting to come down for dinner and me shouting ‘just another five minutes’ seem worth it now!.I started playing Gran Turismo when I was just eight as some friends of my parents had the first game. In the end they gave it to me as they got sick of me coming round,” Jann said.

The two Brits will fight other 28 international finalists at the ultimate five day “Race Camp”, that will be held in June.

As you probably know, the GT Academy is a joint initiative between Nissan and Sony Computer Entertainment, aiming to see if it is possible for a car racing gamer to translate his skills and experience into the real world, racing cars at a high level. The competition debuted back in 2008 and has been constantly evolving, offering more exciting experiences for participants.
