GP3 Series Announces 2010 Calendar

The calendar of the inaugural GP3 Series was finally unveiled by organizer Bruno Michel during the course of yesterday, via a press release. The new championship, aimed to become a feeders series for the GP2 Series – who in turn is a feeder series to the Formula One Championship – will be comprised of 8 rounds throughout the 2010 season, 7 of which will be support races for F1 events.

The season opener will happen in the same weekend the F1 Spanish Grand Prix takes place, at Barcelona, while also coinciding with the GP2 season opening event. After that first round, the GP3 will take a break and return to action for the Portimao round on June 19-20 (the only one not connected to any F1 round), while the last 6 rounds of the 2010 season will become a “support the remaining Formula One European calendar.”

I am very pleased with the inaugural GP3 Series calendar. Three pre-season test days and eight rounds means drivers will have a sizeable amount of running during the season, and with seven of those rounds running alongside Formula One, we are confident the series will achieve excellent exposure for the teams and drivers,” said Michel.

Our driver line-up for the season is also starting to take shape, and I am confident by the time the season kicks off in May we will have thirty highly promising young drivers representing the series,” added the GP3 organizer.

Until now, 10 teams have confirmed their presence in the GP3 Series next year: Addax Team, ART Grand Prix, Atech CRS Grand Prix, Carlin Motorsport, Jenzer Motorsport, Manor Racing, Mucke Motorsport, MW Arden, Status Grand Prix and Tech 1 Racing.
