Gordon Murray and Zytek Tease the T.27 Project

First images of the T.27 small city electric car concept have been just released, offering a preview of the future in urban mobility. Born from a partnership between Gordon Murray Design and Zytek Automotive, the T.27 three-seater project was made possible through a £4.5m investment from the government-backed Technology Strategy Board.

The T.27 aims to be the world's most efficient electric car due to its low weight and ‘clean sheet of paper design'. Therefore, the project developers thought of applying iStream, a manufacturing process developed by Gordon Murray Design, and integrate it with a custom lightweight drivetrain from Zytek. Apparently, such an approach will make the T.27 slightly smaller than a smart, but with more interior space.

"This is an exciting project on several levels,"
says Zytek Automotive Sales and Marketing Director Steve Tremble. "As well as supporting the development of a new family of E-Drives, it will show what can be achieved when the vehicle design is optimized for zero emissions propulsion. It's a terrific initiative and we are delighted that the Technology Strategy Board has agreed to back it."

Through this 16-month project, the two companies hope to increase the consortium’s awareness and build a manufacturing facility in the UK, with the ultimate goal of producing the T.27 in this country. Furthermore, keeping the new technology and IPR within the UK and making this car widely available on the open market is another goal of the company.
