Google Maps Updated With a New Feature That Makes Sense These Days

With the vaccination process underway in many countries around the world, many rely on navigation apps to find the nearest site, and Google Maps is obviously one of the most popular choices.

This is why Google Maps will begin showing local vaccination sites along with extra information to figure out if you need an appointment or referral.

Google says this update will go live shortly as more and more users are searching the web for information like “vaccines near me.” Searches for this particular query, for example, have increased by five times since January 1, according to Google’s data.

In the coming weeks, COVID-19 vaccination locations will be available in Google Search and Maps, starting with Arizona, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas, with more states and countries to come. We’ll include details like whether an appointment or referral is required, if access is limited to specific groups, or if it has a drive-through. We’re working with partners like VaccineFinder.org, an initiative of Boston Children's Hospital, and other authoritative sources, such as government agencies and retail pharmacies, to gather vaccination location information and make it available,” Google explains.

Google Maps has received several major updates in 2020 to help us deal with the global health issue, including information on testing centers and other data to avoid busy places and embrace social distancing.

Furthermore, Google has also updated Google Maps with information on the number of confirmed cases, all displayed in a dedicated layer right on the map when looking at a specific country.

Google says it has also decided to offer some of its facilities, including buildings, parking lots, and open spaces, to authorities who need more places for vaccination clinics, all in an attempt to bring the vaccine to more people faster. The first step in this regard is being made in the United States, but Google says it’ll do the same in other countries across the world shortly.
