GM Recalls 4,000 Cadillac SRX

American manufacturer GM announced today the second major recall for the SRX model in less than half a year. Whereas back in May the crossovers manufactured in 2010 have been pulled back because of engine pre-ignition issues, this time it's all about some damage to the power steering line.

According to GM, 3,996 Cadillac models belonging to the 2010 model year (built in December 2009) may experience unspecified damage to the power steering line which may cause power steering fluid leak, and, should the fluid spray onto hot engine parts, an engine compartment fire.

Most of the models being recalled, 3,460, have been sold in the US, with only 341 having been exported to China.

The carmaker claims that the recall is more of a safety measure, as it has found that at most two out of three vehicles recalled might be affected. No actual incidents related to the issue have been submitted, but GM admits that it is aware of one fire caused by the steering fluid in an unattended SRX.

The recall is expected to begin soon (GM did not announce yet the recall schedule). After the cars will be inspected by dealers, if needed, the power steering line will be replaced. As usual in such cases, the fix will be provided free of charge for the customers.

The SRX was presented last year, having showed its face at several auto shows in 2009. In the US, the model is offered with a choice of two engines, a new 3.0l V6 unit and a 2.8l turbocharged V6 one.
