Although it's only 8 years old, the GM LDT will see a whopping $63 million go into expanding its vehicle building capabilities. The company's newest Stateside facility will expand by 263,000 square feet, hiking its workforce population in the near future as well.
GM was coy on how many jobs the expansion will add, we can tell you that the current 3.4 million square feet complex will grow considerably. There is a 28,000 square feet expansion planned for the general assembly, as well as 181,000 sq. ft. for the body shop and a 54,000 sq. ft. paint shop addition.
The American carmaker informs that the hefty $63 million investment will also add state-of-the-art robotic solutions to the general assembly line, body and paint shops, as well as improved coating solutions that are said to increase corrosion resistance for the three nameplates made here.
“Today’s announcement is the latest example of our ongoing efforts to strengthen key plant capabilities,” declared General Motors North America manufacturing vice president Cathy Clegg. “We’re committed to producing the highest quality and safest vehicles in the market, which will help us earn customers for life. This is why facility investment is so important,” the official concluded.
