Glock Fastest in Fuji's Second Practice

Toyota got off to a great start on their home race at Fuji, after German driver Timo Glock set the fastest time in the second practice session on Friday. After Lewis Hamilton dominated the morning session with a time of 1:18.910, the championship leader had to settle for 3rd overall in the second time trials.

Following his Singapore performance, Fernando Alonso scored the second best time of the day – only 0.037 seconds slower than Glock – while Renault teammate Nelsinho Piquet only came in 12th overall.

Alonso was the first to try out the soft tires, but that resulted in a short visit to the gravel at the lap's very last corner. Glock went out on soft compounds a few minuted later and set the fastest time of the day with almost half of session remaining. Nevertheless, his time remained unchallenged by the end of the day.

“This was the first time I have driven at the Fuji Speedway so I had to learn the track this morning. But we sorted out a lot of stuff and we brought everything together for the second practice, which went well. So far I'm happy and it would be nice to keep the position like this for the whole weekend. That will obviously be difficult but hopefully the local fans will give us an extra boost”, said an enthusiast Glock after the second practice session.

Teammate Jarno Trulli only had to settle for 10th overall, almost half of second behind the German. Ferrari drivers Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen came in 4th and 5th respectively, followed by Red Bull's Mark Webber and local hero Kazuki Nakajima of Williams-Toyota.

The Japanese Grand Prix qualifying session will go down tomorrow at 14.00 PM (05.00 GMT), while the race is scheduled for 13.30 PM (04.30 GMT) on Sunday.
