Remember the 1990s? The times when people like MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice were the equivalent of today’s Justin Bieber and Harry Styles? Well, we do and we also remember a name that would live on through the ages unlike the sideways dance and the whitest rapper of all times: LL Cool J.
Taking the rap scene by surprise, I guess nobody expected him to last but yet, here he is, showing up in movies and TV serials on the regular, all this time later. Well, if you’re still a fan, you can now drive one of his cars.
Apparently a BMW 850i was recently put up for sale on Autotrader and the seller claims that this particular car was the one he owned and even flaunted in the 1993 video for ‘Pink Cookies’. Oh, those were the days....
If you will, LL Cool J was ahead of his time, rapping about completely different things (at times) than his generational colleagues. While others like NWA were talking about the hardships black men have to deal with in that day and age, LL used to rap about ladies, love making and other, less controversial things. Pink Cookies is one of those songs.
He also liked to show his wealth, this BMW being no exclusion. The car used to be extremely expensive back then and its V12 is something you want to listen to all day. It’s not like you wouldn’t like to hear LL Cool J rap but to some that BMW engine is more exciting.
Getting down to the nitty-gritty the 850i comes with a 5-liter V12 under the bonnet that used to be hooked up either to a 4-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual gearbox. Making 300 HP and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque it allowed the car to reach 60 mph in around 6.3 seconds. It’s not blazing fast but it has style. Add in the fact that LL Cool J used to drive it (allegedly) you have a pretty nice collectable on your hands.
