Gary McCoy Makes MotoGP Return with DF Corse!

Gary McCoy recently lost his job in the World Supersport series, after Triumph confirmed the Australian will no longer be part of their 4-rider lineup for the upcoming season. When the news surfaced in the media, many believed McCoy's future in motorcycle racing will come to a closure.

What they didn't expect, however, was for the 37-year old rider to secure a deal in the upcoming season of the MotoGP championship. Yes, you've heard it right! Four years after he was forced to leave the MotoGP series due to some contractual problems with Ilmor, McCoy managed to secure a deal with DF Corse for the 2010 campaign.

The official confirmation of that deal was supposed to be made by the team later this month, during the team's official launch in Milan. However, McCoy's excitement beat that date, as he couldn't wait to share the news with his fans, via his Facebook account.

I am back in MotoGP!!! For two years I am going to develop the FB01 bike with your support! I want to thank Andrea Ferrari and Sergio Bertocchi and all the FB Corse Team for giving me the chance to return back to MotoGP,” wrote McCoy on his account.

Initially, this race spot was supposed to belong to former Suzuki and Kawasaki rider John Hopkins. However, the American racer was recently confirmed at M4 Suzuki team in AMA Superbikes, paving the way for McCoy's comeback in the series.

His latest experience in the MotoGP was in the final two rounds of the 2006 season, when he rode Ilmor's X3 800cc prototype. However, the team did not keep the Australian for the 2007 season, replacing him with 42-year-old Jeremy McWilliams. Funding issued have eventually put an end to Ilmor's dream of running a MotoGP team, as they announced their permanent quit from the series only one race into the 2007 season.

For the past 2 seasons, McCoy has ran in the Supersport series for Triumph.
