Current BMW products are known for their tendency to break design rules and sometimes even abandon common sense. However, that doesn't make them any less feisty, especially when the M division reworks them.
For example, it takes a lot of willpower to enjoy the latest 7 Series and i7, a hard stomach to unsee the XM flagship SUV, and also lots of indulgence to let some of the smaller models like the M2 slide. However, I have come to the realization that it only takes a little bit of time to get accustomed to the M3 and M4, for example, and forget about the memes with the double-coffin grille.

Anyway, as it turns out, there are also colors that will help you achieve a less troublesome appearance – at least when seen from a distance. For example, the latest G80 sixth generation BMW M3, powered by the same S58 twin-turbocharged inline-six that debuted on the G01 BMW X3 M, is a lot less prone to controversies when fully dressed in black.

But there's no need to take our word for granted, as we have an eloquent example. Even better, this aggressive M3 not only shows its subdued design but also gives a testament to its technical prowess as it was filmed at the local quarter-mile dragstrip. Well, 'local' might not be the best way to describe it, as we are dealing here with the four-lane The Strip course at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

In fact, the videographer behind the Wheels Plus channel on YouTube is a big fan of Bandimere Speedway (also known in the NHRA as Thunder Mountain) in Colorado and Mission Raceway Park (aka Thunder by the River) in Canada but also loves The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on many occasions, for instance, like when a black G80 BMW M3 decided to give us a sample of the ICE versus EV wars.

That night, this M3 – most likely the Competition version (possibly with xDrive) – took on Tesla's best-selling models, the Model 3 sedan and Model Y crossover SUV – most likely in Performance form. As we all know, BMW severely underrates the actual power of its engines, so these brawls should be more than interesting. Well, the initial skirmish against the Model 3 was a case of 'it's close but not close enough,' given the 11.84 versus 11.86s victory for the EV.

However, given its added bulk, the odds were in BMW's favor when the Model Y lined up. As such, the M3 driver quickly took advantage of the lighter machine and made short work of the Tesla, obliterating it with an even better 11.62s versus 12.34s pass. Feeling confident, the BMW racer probably called for a rematch with the Model 3, but the track 'gods' and their rules decided that Tesla's EV deserved the victory again.
