German manufacturer Daimler, together with the Japanese based subsidiary Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) presented today in Munich the new Euro 5-compliant Fuso Canter truck.
“Today’s and future emission regulations demand a high level of investment and technological specialization. The new Canter with Euro 5-compliant engines is one of the most modern, technologically advanced, and environmentally friendly light duty trucks for the business operations of Fuso customers,” Andreas Renschler, Daimler member of the board said in a release.
The new Canter will come in waves, with new engines covering the truck's entire gross weight range from 3.5 to 7.5 tons. All new units benefit from an exhaust gas treatment system. For the lower variants, the exhaust gases are dealt with by a mix of cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), oxidizing catalytic converter and particulate filter.
The most powerful unit makes use of the BlueTec with AdBlue system, making it "the most advanced emission control currently available." Starting with 2010, the Canter will also be available with Enhanced Environmentally Friendly Vehicle (EEV) engines.
By reducing engine displacement from 4.9l to 3.0l, the manufacturer managed to achieve better fuel consumption rates, even if no oficial figures have yet been submitted.
The Fuso Canter will come to Europe this month, at prices yet to be disclosed. Bringing the Canter to Europe is part of MFTBC's strategy to make the Old Continent a key market fot its business.
“We have expanded the international business, modernized our business system, and fully integrated Fuso into Daimler Trucks in response to the transforming global commercial vehicle market,” Renschler added.
