Hyundai finally unveiled the ix35 at the Frankfurt Auto Show which is often regarded as the company's replacement for the popular Tucson. Several details on the subject surfaced way before this public unveiling in Germany but we finally got the full list of specs and equipment details.
The South Korean carmaker worked on the exterior styling so a new front grille, together with revised parts including a rear spoiler and optional 225/55 R18 wheels are part of the package. The hexagonal grille is the same with the one seen on the ix-onic concept displayed at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show which also served as the development platform for the new ix35.
Inside, both the passengers and the driver will get a wide array of features, no matter if we're talking about the 3.5-inch color LCD or the start Push Button with smart-key proximity sensor. Additionally, the car features a dual-panel panoramic with UV blocking, USB/AUX connectivity and a cooled glovebox.
As for the engines, the ix35 will be offered with both diesel and gasoline configurations. The diesels will come in the form a new R 2.0-liter unit developing either 184 horsepower and 392 Nm of torque or 136 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque. A second unit is available as well, the 1.7-liter which releases 115 horsepower and 255 Nm of torque.
There will be two gasoline units, a 2.0-liter producing 163 horsepower and 197 Nm of torque plus the Gamma 1.6-liter GDI that produces 140 horsepower and 167 Nm of torque.
The engines are mated to a 6-speed manual unit as standard, while a 6-speed automatic unit with Shiftronic is offered as optional.
Production of the ix35 will commence in the last months of the year while the first units will be delivered in the first quarter of 2010.
