Everybody loves to have a well built German convertible. The top down, the wind in your hair and billions of liters of headroom. Unfortunately, the Audi A5 is kind of expensive. Now though, there's a new, more affordable contender.
The same MQB platform used by Volkswagen to make the Gold has been stretched into the shape of the A3 Cabriolet. But what's new about it? Well, basically everything, from the way it looks to what powers it.

Revealed this Sunday, the new A3 Cabriolet is making its motor show debut in Frankfurt. Because this is such an important car for them, Audi has brought over not one but two units, showing potential configuration options in the process.

It's immediately obvious the new A3 Cabriolet is longer than its predecessor. That's because the model's length has increased from 4.24m to 4.42m, its wheelbase from 2.58 to 2.60 meters and its width from 1.77 to 1.79 meters. Luggage capacity has increased by a very useful 60 liters.

Both the cars shown in Frankfurt have the 1.8-liter TFSI engine, which is about at "Audi" as a the four rings. One has quattro and one has front-wheel drive, but both come with the S line package.

Audi has only made three engines available at launch, starting with VW Groups new 1.4 TSI (TFSI if you ask Audi) with cylinder deactivation. But there will be a lot more units available next year, culminating with the 300 hp S3 capable of 0 to 100 km/h in about 5 seconds.
