Celebration at Ford Europe today, after two on the carmaker's new models, the C-Max and Grand C-Max received their stars, five of them, from the Euro NCAP. The cars were tested in a new batch of 14 new vehicles announced this week.
In the case of the C-Max, the good overall crash protection for occupants and pedestrians has been enhanced by the safety systems featured in the vehicles. These systems include Ford’s Intelligent Protection System (IPS), a combination between high-strength body structure (53 per cent of the bodyshell in each vehicle is made from high-strength steels) and restraint systems.
The restraint systems deployed in the C-Max line include individual single stage front airbags and 3D side thorax airbags, Rear Seat Beltminder, and side curtain airbags for the first and second row seats.
These systems are enhanced by passive protection systems designed to minimize the effects of a crash, like the horizontal stroking steering column.
“Crash test ratings are an important factor when designing and engineering our vehicles and we’re delighted that Euro NCAP has recognised that both the new C-MAX and Grand C-MAX models offer excellent protection in the event of a collision,” said Gunnar Herrmann, Ford's Global Vehicle Line Director for C cars.
“These are the first vehicles to be built on our new global C-car platform and for them to score so highly bodes well for future products including the all-new Focus which goes on sale next year.”
In the new crash testing session, Euro NCAP tested 14 vehicles. 10 of them, including the C-Max, have received a five star rating, three a four star rating and the Chinese Landwind CV9 only a two star rating.
