Fisker Plans More Versions of the Karma

After just started deliveries on its Karma range extended-electric car Fisker Automotive has already stared making plans for releasing other models. The future technology car manufacturer has ambitious plans to release a range of new models over the next few years. Their plans include the launch of more variants of the Karma, as well as its Project Nina plug in-hybrid, which is to be built at a former GM plant in Delaware.

However, new details of the next model have been revealed by What Car?. While many have forecasted that Fisker’s next model will be a production version of the Sunset concept, it's expected that the new model will be a crossover built on the Karma’s underpinnings. Furthermore a concept version of the vehicle is expected to be revealed as early as next month’s 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show, also being scheduled to enter production next year.

Also, the Sunset will go on sale in 2013 as a coupe-convertible complete with an automated folding hard-top. The manufacturer’s plans don’t end here as Fisker is developing a new gearbox. Usually EVs can handle single-speed gearboxes due to their high levels of instantaneous torque. But the manufacturer is currently working in a two-speed design which will improve economy and achieve greater speeds at the same time.

The two-speed gearbox is designed to work with an all-wheel drive system. Concerning the Nina Project, it is expected to be a small sedan that will go on sale in 2013 and will inspire a lot of coming models.
