To the ears of the younger riders, the name Serow sounds completely strange, but we are positive these fellows would be simply thrilled to throw a leg over this bike. And because this year Yamaha celebrates no less than 30 years since the model was introduced, a 30th Anniversary Limited Edition model will be sold.
The Yamaha Serow 30th Anniversary Limited Edition might become a strong seller in markets where quarter-liter bikes are enjoying a quickly-rising popularity. Even more, as the 300cc class seems to be the new cool, we might get to see the Serow sales surge, especially when introduces by such a good-looking special edition machine.

On and off the road, fun never ends

Serow epitomized the cool factor of small, punchy bikes which could go anywhere decades before it became fashionable. Truth is, back then such bikes were very popular mainly because this was more or less the average level the motorcycle industry was at. And the fact that the model endured to the present days is a good sign of how much appreciation the Serow got.

The initial bike was a rather dull presence judged by today’s standards, but the Yamaha Serow 30th Anniversary Limited Edition is a show-stealer. Yamaha literally charged deep into cool territory and created stunning graphics for the new Serow, adding colored accents which also make the bike look rich. Orange anodized rims, matching grab rails and headlight protector add to the strong personality.

Serow packs a 249cc air-cooled single which can produce 18 hp @ 7,500 and 19 Nm (14 lb-ft) at 6,500 rpm, and comes with a convenient 5-speed transmission. The tank can hold 9.6 liters (2.53 US gal) of gas and the (probably dry) weight of the Serow is 130 kg (287 lb).

Yamaha adds that 2,500 such bikes will be made, but does not specify whether the Serow will go international or not. We also spotted a blue and white 30th Anniversary model. Anyway, Japanese riders will get it for 545,000 Yen, which is around $4,500 or €4,235.
